Introduction

Second medical opinion was founded by Dr. Michael Hanna. He is an emergency physician. He holds masters from McMaster University. He completed further training at Stanford University and emergency medicine fellowship at the Beth Deacon Center.

One day, Dr. Hanna received a phone call from his father saying that Dr. Hanna’s mother has a mass on her breast. Dr. Hanna promptly initiated medical investigation which revealed stage four breast cancer metastasizing to the liver, the bone, and the lungs.

Dr. Hanna consulted with the oncologist who recommended treatment. Dr. Hanna further wanted to get an opinion because he didn’t accept the six months life expectancy. The second oncologist had a different opinion and a different approach for treatment. He was a pioneer and one of the best doctors in the world in the breast cancer field. He was aware of a new clinical trial that was taking place. However, it carried a significant amount of risk due to its side effects with a success rate of 53%. Dr. Hanna appointed after discussion with his family to proceed with treatment with the second physician and his mother lived three and a half years following the treatment.
